Leaders to gather for Africa Energy Innovation Prize in March 2015
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 9 January, 2015
Africa has seen unprecedented economic growth in recent years (6 of the fastest growing economies in the world are in Africa). For this growth to be maintained, the continent needs to grow its electricity generation capacity. The continent has made some great strides, over 145 million people have been given access to electricity since the late 1990s. Over 620 million people in Africa, however, are currently living without access to electricity. Chronic electricity shortages continue to be the norm across Africa.
Because the industry needs innovative thinking to address its biggest problems, the 2015 edition of Power & Electricity World Africa is bringing the world’s most innovative thinkers & disruptors (recognised by the World Economic Forum, Forbes, Fortune Magazine, Harvard, MIT and many other world renowned institutions) to Africa. With the US$30 000 Africa Energy Innovation Prize, the show aims to foster innovation in the African energy sector. The awards recognises outstanding achievements in energy research and technology from Africa and around the world. The drive for success and competitive advantage, coupled with the need to satisfy spiralling energy demands across the world is what’s pushing futurists and disruptors to deliver new practical energy solutions and innovations.
